Microsoft .NET 10 Updates for Autodesk 3ds Max and Maya
Microsoft has announced that support for .NET 8 and .NET 9 will end on November 10, 2026. After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide servicing updates, security updates, or technical support for these versions.
Many Autodesk products include components or dependencies that rely on Microsoft .NET technologies. As part of this commitment to providing highly trustworthy and performant software, Autodesk product teams are planning updates to Autodesk products, where applicable and feasible, to align with Microsoft’s .NET product support lifecycle.
3ds Max 2026, Maya 2025, and Maya 2026 have already rolled out security updates that include an upgrade from .NET 8 to .NET 10. Refer to the respective product release notes for more information:
Note: 3ds Max 2024/2025 and Maya 2024 use .NET Framework 4.8 variants and therefore do not require this .NET 10 upgrade. Microsoft continues to support .NET Framework 4.x versions, including 4.8 and 4.8.1, in accordance with the lifecycle of the Windows operating system on which they are installed. .NET Framework will also continue to be included with Windows. Read more about supported .NET Frameworks here.
Also note: 3ds Max 2027 and Maya 2027 ship with .NET 10 by default, so no changes are required for these versions.
As a result of these upgrades, we recommend ensuring that all related Autodesk products are also updated to avoid potential compatibility issues.

What do you need to do?
There are no API changes in any of these products as part of this update. The only change is that the underlying .NET runtime is moving from .NET 8 to .NET 10.
Existing plug-ins and add-ins should continue to work unless they are affected by breaking changes introduced in .NET 10. In such cases, they may need to be recompiled and retargeted to .NET 10.
Developers are advised to test their plug-ins and add-ins for compatibility with the updated product releases.
If you encounter any compatibility issues, please report them through ADN Support.
