Cross-platform support has been a big goal for MantisBase, drawing on our past experience with many great toolkits that took a similar approach. For quite a while, though, we only provided prebuilt binaries for Windows (x86) and Linux (x86/ARM).
Part of the reason is that wrangling CI to produce all these assets is tough work. But just as important, without actual hardware to test on, we were building blind and hoping everything worked. Passing tests on CI only tells you so much, and we’d rather not be the project that answers a bug report with “it works on my machine.”
So, what’s changed?
Over the past few weeks, we reworked the CI process and extended our platform-specific handling to cover new targets. The headline addition is macOS support for both Intel and Apple Silicon (M-series).
As with Linux, you now get both platform-specific binaries (mantisbase_v0.4.7-rc.1_macos-[x86_64/aarch64].zip) and a dev package (mantisbase_v0.4.7-rc.1-darwin-cpp-dev.zip).
Something for Windows too?
We didn’t stop there. Windows builds have so far been x86 only, but ARM builds are now generated as well, for the 0.000001% of you running Windows on ARM machines.
Other notable changes
The architecture itself hasn’t changed much, but here are the notable updates:
Refactored CMake deps and fixed admin UI setup via
mb-adminFixed an invalid account setup endpoint and a file upload issue for bodies larger than 1 MB
Fixed a segfault from
mbteardown in testsPackaged third-party libs in the dev package
Refactored the dev package to include only dynamic libs
Refined the C++ dev workflow
Fixed dev build packaging and usability
Added a redirect handler, CI fixes, and symbol exports in shared libs
Added Python and Node bindings support (initial work)
Coming soon?
We are finalizing the Python and Node bindings to allow you to run MantisBase native on those languages. Keep an eye out on the upcoming releases!
